Dante Alighieri

Dante Alighieri (c. 1265 – September 14, 1321) was a monumental Italian poet, writer, and political thinker of the Late Middle Ages. Widely referred to simply as Dante, he is celebrated as the “Father of the Italian language”. His choice to write his masterpieces in the vernacular Tuscan dialect, rather than traditional Latin, fundamentally shaped Western literature and made poetry accessible to the public.
